I d recommend LG products in other electronic categories as well >> Black Screen of Death I guess I ll jump on here and relay my experience of the Black Screen of Death I ve had the TV for just under three years and it gave up the ghost a few weeks ago Like others have said my TV began flickering at first Then the picture would disappear for 10 minutes or so and then return I followed all of the typical trouble shooting methods and then did an internet search to see if I was a moron Apparently I m not and others are experiencing the same issues I paid over 1 000 for this TV about 4 years ago and now it s a very expensive paper weight To make matters worse new 32 LCD tvs can be had for about 350 00 I guess this one will get tossed out because I see that people that have had their set repaired find the black screen to recur down the line
Well Black Friday is coming up I guess I m getting up early I believe I m done with LG and Insignia which LG makes >> Unbelievable I bought this television with a year warranty 11 months after my purchase the screen started going out at what look to be power flashes The power in my apartment isnt the greatest do to a diy landlord so I started re routing the power to other circuits in my home After the problem continued in outlets that my other electronics were on I decided to call LG They told me I was 6 days out of warranty but they would extend it Oh happy day After dealing with a repair man that I m going to call a drunk for 2 months I called LG and they sent me to another service center They replaced the main board which means they replaced everything but the speakers and the case Everything worked out right Not a chance 8 months after this replacement the exact same thing started happening The costumer service could only tell me that they could not authorize any other warranty extension I got transferred to management who said the exact same thing I now have a television that is unwatchable after less then 2 years To make things worse in the middle of all of this I bought an LG cell phone that now turns off when I try to use the text keyboard LG goodbye and good riddance

LG 47LC7DF 47 inch 1080p LCD HDTV >> Good buy Gave this TV four stars but a high four stars after only having the set for a few days Have NOT hooked up a Bluray player and to my understanding so far that s the only source where you will CURRENTLY realize 1080p resolution My cable box delivers 1080i and there may not be much of a difference but from what I ve seen in the electronics stores it does make a difference Don t get me wrong the picture on this LG is really nice but because I haven t tried Bluray I don t see the very very high detail I do at the stores The stores have some TV s that are directly hooked to a Bluray player thus the fantastic picture So if you re thinking about this TV simply see the picture for yourself in a store with Bluray
Before buying this TV I compared its picture right next to a Sony and some Samsung s Every bit as good and in the case of the Sony better However I m disappointed with some of the views I ve seen while at home the biggest being the distance views of people s faces what looks to be about 10 feet or so away from the face Less detail there than when very close up Now that could be my cable connection or the signal coming from my cable box how the screen was shot etc Close up face pictures are fantastic
This size TV is really nice a true home theater experience and recommended minimum viewing distance from the set is about 8 feet Size does matter Ha Oh I wanted to mention this If you re in the market for a wall mount I priced them at the stores Cir Sity over 500 Worst Buy 350 I ended up getting a mount on Fleabay that great on line auction site for about 100 It s called the DUAL ARM LCD PLASMA MOUNT 37 42 50 58 63 SANUS 1 and it is one of the few wall mounts that will fit this TV Be careful at the auctions Some sellers will tell you their mount will fit but just look at their mount drawing that shows the dimensions Must be 400 X 800 mm to work
PROS ON THIS LCD Nice picture and even though I ve read other reviews on the poorer black coloring I ve not noticed a problem with that Love the User 1 and User 2 and other picture quality setting options Yes the settings make a difference when viewing HD or regular TV Access these quickly by sliding the plastic cover on the remote and hitting Picture simple Love the size of the screen and the overall look of the set Sound is average and a home theater system with a set like this is really the icing on the cake Installation was pretty straight forward You don t have to be a rocket scientist to hook it up Really like the USB hook up to show your home photos or to listen to your home music Like the side mounted USB and S video access and find the rear access not an inconvenience I like being able to hook up my computer to the set too This TV does a great job of showing good quality from stations that do not have HD too Very nice picture
CONS ON THIS LCD Don t like the lessor quality picture in distance views but as mentioned that could be my cable connection or what the movie was filmed in better or worse definition etc Varies with what you are watching The information in the manual that comes with the TV is very poor and the on line manual and included C D is no better It tells what the buttons on the remote are for and how to hook the TV up etc but nothing is really explained Nothing I guess the only way to get more info is to go directly to LG or through an on line forum
I guess the bottom line is just because it s an HD LCD TV don t expect this or any other HD set to give you a fantastic picture all the time Too many factors such as what broadcasters are filming in your personal settings your cable company s set ups etc Do NOT watch the TV with the picture settings that come from the factory You must go through all the settings and adjust them to your own eye Only then will you get a good picture
But if you re on the line of whether or not to buy it truly is a home theater and I couldn t recommend it more highly That being said the news said that LCD s should drop in price by half by the day after Thanksgiving You might want to hold off Good luck Jerry
Update I ve watched movies and have determined that the problem with the lessor quality of picture of people etc further from the camera or in the background is the result of programs and movies NOT in HD or shot in a lessor resolution The picture in HD is nothing less than fantastic >> Shopping at Amazon Great TV and a good seller and received my purchase as they had said but I only wish I would have waited a few days as the same seller was selling the TV for 200 less than I paid and besides I wish I would have investigated the company then I would have found out they was in my state and therefore I had to pay state sales tax on my purchase >> Solid purchase but shop around first While 1080p for this price is a decent value there are significant drawbacks in picture quality The black levels are not as good as more expensive brands or plasmas which impacts movies and cable the most The backlight is REALLY strong and gets really flashy/painful when bright scenes are suddenly displayed like commercials DVDs and Blurays look good but not great due to the black levels I found the XD engine helpful for movies but it also distorts the overall picture in my opinion Games look great on this tv the notorious motion blur on LCDs is still present but not very noticeable/distracting Overall this is a solid purchase but probably not the best be sure to shop around for other brands/deals before settling on this one

LG 50PG60 50 Inch 1080p Plasma Frameless Edge HDTV >> Great TV but only lasted 16 months We bought this tv 16 months ago and have totally loved it However while watching it it totally quit working about a week ago It made this zap sound and cut off and had absolutely no power at all My husband seems to think it s the power supply however we have to pay 75 00 for a service call just to get them to come get it and then to diagnose it will be even more It looks like a power supply is anywhere from 175 00 to 300 00 plus labor I would assume We are dealing with our local store JEFF LYNCH and even though this is the second big screen TV we have purchased and also all of our kitchen appliances they do not seem overly concerned at all We ve dealt with the same sales person for every purchase but yet he still isn t going to go above and beyond to help us Overall it s just disappointing for what these TVs cost you would expect them to last longer than one year

The sound seems really good I am used to the big speaks so I am a little skeptical Will add to this review if my option changes >> Love it Love it Love it I bought this tv to replace my Toshiba 46 LCD 1080p I really did like my Toshiba but there is no comparison between the two I was a little hesitant at first due to all the rumors you here about plasma tv s but after I did my research I found most of them to be false The picture is amazing The setup and operation is fairly easy also At the store I did notice the settings on the plasma tv were set to make them look darker than the LCD s This plasma has a Vivid picture setting that brightens the picture and improves the color I have my tv wall mounted in our family room which has 3 large windows and I do not have a problem with glare I am not an expert by far but I will say if you decide to buy this tv you will not be disappointed I was so happy with LG I went back and bought one for my bedroom not as big though Hope this helps Thanks

I have this one wall mounted a little to the right of my wall mounted computer LCD and the viewing angle is perfect I have a little pair of Logitech X 140 speakers plugged into the headphone jack on back and the sound is absolutely awesome Inexpensive Sony progressive DVD also hooked up and with component hookup to TV the DVD picture is breathtaking
For the money I couldn t have done better than this little 20 LG as the center of my office television viewing I m glad I took time to compare models and that the Samsungs gave me eyestrain right off the bat That sealed the deal I can watch my LG 20LS7D for hours with no eyestrain

LG 37LG30 37 Inch 720p LCD HDTV >> a solid choice but I will say that I think this is a great TV for the price It has a lot of nice options and the HD looks great This LG would have gotten a solid 4 stars
The only drawback The sound is terrible 1 star The internal speakers don t cut it The sound on a regular channel is okay but not great once you get to an HD channel forget it the sound bottoms right out
You can turn the volume to 100 and still miss dialogue even with the clear voice option on and yes I ve had my hearing checked its fine
Maybe I m being picky but I have a Samsung 40 and the sound on that tv is great nothing more needed I will need to get a surround sound system for the LG to be able to enjoy it more and hear it when I m more than 3 feet away
Overall the money saved in getting this model balances things out I m not too upset over having to get a surround sound system for it
Bottom line this TV is a solid purchase just be prepared to sink some more money into some better sound >> LG Customer Service is Old Fashioned and Top Notch Like so many others I was pleasantly surprised that while looking only at the best name brand 32 and 37 inch LCDs I happened across an LG and found it to compare very favorably

Well I love this TV it s been a dream however after 9 months I had reason to need LG s customer service
The TV has intermittently stopped responding to the remote controls
I found my manual and called LG I was speaking to Scott in customer service after the shortest most sensible phone menu I have encountered Scott was helpful and courteous He scheduled a repair to come into my home the next day
Folks this is important You must consider this when buying
I can recommend this TV without reservation but more so I can recommend LG as they will stand by the product and the customer if things go wrong

In my studying of which LCD TV to buy for myself including options of sizing brand names etc one of the things I kept running across on different websites and forums was when talking size When Does 1080p Become Irrelevant Some said smaller than 42 you can t tell the difference Others said smaller than 40 you can t tell the difference Even though the inner me the guy that desires the newest and bestest of what technology has to offer wanted to choose a 1080p model it didn t matter once I realized I was going with a 37 LCD TV I knew it would behoove me financially to choose the 720p model And I am glad I did
Aesthetically pleasing design Truly fantastic picture quality Brand name LG Remote control is simple and easy to use The menu options are clean and not complicated

LG 42LGX 42 Inch 1080p 120hz LCD HDTV >> Beautiful TV as well as picture with sleek 1 8in design I searched high and low for a 40 to 42in TV and this was the best deal on the market I was being told by salesmen and reviews that Samsungs had the best picture and I found them to look pretty good as well But for the price range I was in 1000 I was not finding the specs I wanted 120Hz 42in 1080p auto light adjust swivel base As a matter of fact it was very hard to find a reputable TV maker with a 120Hz 42 in that price point Then I stumbled across the 42LGX I thought the TV was stunning looking with the scarlet red on the back the chrome colored base and the clear see through power circle It had all those specs and the picture was absolutely stunning I looked at it side by side next to a comparable Samsung and the pictures were very similar When comparing to the Samsung models in the same price the picture was better Samsung would only offer a 60Hz TV at that price point with a 40in screen It just looked way smaller The LG was a no brainer The only thing that made the decision difficult was the 42LG70 It had the exact same specs but it wasn t 1 8in thick It was on clearance as a display model for 850 and the LGX was brand new for 999 The Samsung closest in price and features was about 1300 I ended up buying at Fryes Electronics with a 5 year warranty and I m very happy with the deal
I use the TV with my computer I disconnected my cable TV to watch movies and TV shows over the internet and it works great I use Windows Media Center and I have no problem getting full and wide screen shows in high def I also use a video capture card that gives me all the features of a HD DVR I get HD over the air and it looks way better than cable or satellite on this TV The TV works very well as a second monitor with the DVI connection You cannot tell if you re watching TV piped from the computer or directly on the TV it looks that good Also when people see it they can t believe I don t have cable

When input from PS3 or computer the picture is absolutely amazing I invited my brother over to show him how awesome it looks to play high definition computer games on a 42 1080P TV and he was blown away He plays on a 24 1900x1200 computer monitor and he was surprised at how the picture clarity was still there even when the same picture is stretched out nearly 4 times as much 24 to 42
The quality and aesthetics are spot on as well It rivals Samsung in all ways Excellent picture very sleek styling and sturdy construction
The only con is the remote where it is very large and must be pointed nearly directly at the sensor otherwise the TV will not respond
I m primarily using it for my computer/gaming machine but as well I use it for TV and PS3 >> Great when released but not very cost efficient now I m writing this review after owning this TV since it was put on store shelves in 2007 I have had no problems out of it aside from the glitch that was in the original firmware When looking for a TV at that time my goal was not to break two thousand for a 42 inch 1080p and also have 1080p input via the VGA due to the lack of HDMI on the XBOX 360 at that time I will list some positive and negative points of this TV
Pros Support 1080p over component VGA and HDMI Vivid colors and very crisp picture quality Handles SD content very well
Cons Black Level is not deep Dynamic Contrast is very obvious when doing it s task is best when off HDMI has issues with the Pre June 2007 firmware and PC mode The noise reduction filter is lackluster at best
Additional Points BAD CUSTOMER SUPPORT Thanks to the AVSForums it was discovered the HDMI issue with PC mode over HDMI was a firmware issue This issue could be resolved by turning the TV off and back on when using the HDMI but that is not a very convenient solution When contacting customer support about this they not only lied about there being a newer firmware but I was also told by one of the agents that I was making up these issues because they had the TV and did not have any of the issues I was having > > I was able to fix the issue at a later time due to someone on the AVSForums sharing a unlinked webpage on the LG site having firmware upgrades and instructions Although this was not shared until about 1 year after owning the TV
Breakdown When this TV came out it was the only TV under two thousand with 1080p support on component VGA and HDMI I am a happy owner of this TV and the overall quality and build of this TV is great but at its current pricetag on Amazon new and used it is not worth the cost With the same money you can buy a better TV that isn t almost 2 years old and outdated based on the newer sets

LG 32LC7D 32 720p LCD HDTV >> Don t Buy It I bought my LG 32LC7D 32 television in October 2007 Exactly 2 years later October 2009 no extended warranty I turned it on and had no picture no sound Called LG and they had me attempt to do a hard reset on it which did not work They offered me assistance with finding an authorized repair center but I suspect it will be cheaper or about the same price to buy a new television No more LG for me
>> Black screen from hell I did not but this from amazon but just want to let the world know everything My LG 32lc7d 32 inch TV is 9 months old December 2007 to September 2008 and now the screen goes black with sound and the channels will change I can hear them Also when the TV is fine if I touch the remote it freezes the picture so turn it off and on witch does not respond to the remote for five seconds turn it on again it works for 2 to 3 hours then same problem LG claim its a software problem well I got link to the firmware update down load to my memory stick and stuck it in the usb port on the back of the TV software update fine no problem TV reset all my preference are lost no problem I can set it how I like it but now worst things are happening the screen goes black after 15 to 20 minutes and no sound now so the firmware did not work but caused more problems and less viewing time No more LG product for me in life again I bought the TV for 1000 us and the DVD up converting player for 110 LG sound system So I could 1 remote to make life easer for me but life is better for LG now since they have my money and all I have is problems We should come together and attack LG about this problem and for dishonorable customer support or boycott them and their products for good hundreds of thousands of people have this problem and nothing What s the sense of a warranty if there no fix for your problems and you can t get your money back I have bought so many LG products and now no fix there are millions of people who don t have a 1000us in there bank account I now feel like I was robbed by an eletronic millionaire

Resolution I chose the 1080p because it was clearer than the 760p I ve heard people say that you can tell unless you re using BluRay and I disagree I could definitely tell the difference especially on text and I am glad that I chose the 1080p
This television has a 30 1 contrast ratio and that makes HUGE difference in viewing text and the color black Televisions with a lower contrast ratio including the LG 50PG20 looked grey and the colors sometimes bled
The Glare I upgraded from a CRT television to this This television has alot less glare than my old TV so I don t know what all of the fuss is about When my four lamps are on and my huge picture window is uncurtained there is STILL less glare than my old TV If I have company over I close the curtains and turn off the largest lamp and it looks great No glare at all I don t know what all of the glare fuss is about
Sound Quality The sound quality is adequate It s about the same as other televisions I ve seen even the more expensive ones The general consensus is that people who buy flat screens should also buy a home theater system which I m planning to do next year When I have alot of background noise during the day my kids playing phones ringing hubby on the computer cars going by I have to turn it to about 75 Their volume scale is 1 100 When the house is quieter 25 suffices It works well and is fine for now
Size The size is awesome and terrific The closest seats are about five feet away and the farthest seats are eleven feet away and it looks great from any of those distances at whatever angles I love love love the size It s like being at a movie theater without any crying kids Except my own Let me say it again THE SIZE IS AWESOME
Picture Quality I have cable and it looks fine The HD channels look awesome In both cases HD and digital channel you can practically see the pores on the actors faces I purchased an upconverting DVD players so almost all of my DVDs look awesome as well I do have a few that don t look so hot I picked up Ghostbusters I and II for cheap at Wal Mart and they both look grainy However I m chalking that up to both films being produced in the early eighties and never having been remastered
A note on this You cannot just plug this is and let it go I had to purchase a good HDMI cable cost me about 100 bucks to get the picture quality that I expect from a plasma I originally had it hooked up with my old RCA cables and it looked okay Once we got the HDMI hooked up I was blown away and ecstatic even with the picture on standard settings UPDATE Apparently HDMI cables are all the same If you pay 100 bucks for one you re a chump like me lol But em cheap here on Amazon My first set died and I got my second set of cables for less than 10 bucks including shipping
Price This television has an average price on it There are televisions that cost less and ones that cost more I really found this television to be the best value for my money because it LOOKED like the expensive televisions without the higher price tag It is a bit more than some of the lower end versions but I really feel like you get what you pay for and this is awesome and totally worth it However the Amazon price on it now is about four hundred dollars more than I paid so I would really price shop before I purchased
The Remote I saw some bad reviews for the remote and I decided I didn t care because I could always purchase a universal remote later Some reviewers said it was confusing and so I expected it to be confusing but it wasn t UPDATE My kids recently broke the remote casing open and the remote is sturdy enough that my husband put it back together and it still works great I am very pleased with this remote
It is a very straightforward remote On top you have your sound and picture controls then your arrow keys followed by your volume and channel keys your favorites and mute button is in between the two followed by your numbers The volume and channel buttons are curved so your fingers can feel the difference between up and down without looking
The addition of the sound and picture controls make it a LONG remote and I couldn t reach all of the controls with my hand on the middle My husband can but I can t However it is very light and slim so moving my hand to different sections was not a problem and doesn t even require looking at it
Shipping This item was very well packed by LG and arrived without a scratch or a dead pixel It was awesome I had heard some horror stories so I was a bit worried In the end I was more than satisfied with the condition it arrived in
The Verdict This television is the best value for the money and I am so glad that I purchased it It impresses me every time I see it and I have had it for over a month Yay
UPDATE I have now had it for more than four months and I am still ecstatic with it The picture is still great and I am STILL impressed by it s size

LG 42LG50 42 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV >> My computer monitor I use the TV for both my computer monitor and cable TV It does both very well The picure is great and it is very versitle There are plenty of inputs for any thing you want to use it for The only 2 cons 1 the sound is poor external speakers are a must 2 the remote works slowly It is great for gaming >> Hand shake issues with PS3 and HDMI If you own a PS3 and want to connect it to this TV DON T BUY THIS TV I also have issues with the PS3 Blu ray player even with Composite cables It is extremely frustrating I bought a 900 TV and I am only able to use it to watch HD programming through cable Beware >> Give me a second chance I found that out of the box the picture was very poor tried all the preset picture modes Vivid Standard Cinema etc still crap However once I adjusted the individual settings i e turned the sharpness way down and modified colour and backlight the picture was outstanding So different in fact I could not believe it was the same TV I watch alot of HD sport and blu ray movies at a viewing distance of 12 feet and can not fault it for the money No image fox trailing /image blur Don t get me wrong I would have loved to have brought Panasonic 1080p plasma for better contrast ratio but could not afford or justify the extra money HIGHLY RECOMMENDED just don t trust the preset picture settings My fav settings Backlight 21 Contrast 79 Brightness 62 Color 75 Sharpness 0 Tint G7

The picture quality is excellent the interface is very user friendly and it provides more than enough connectivity sockets HDMI Composite 3 way cables etc for any average user like myself to have no problem connecting cable boxes blu ray players a home theater system a ps3 and other gaming consoles
The 1080p picture quality with the Tru Motion feature make it so that blu ray picture quality is beyond excellent I am even happy with the remote control setup I found that for watching non HD content turning the Tru Motion off is optimal and luckily turning this feature on and off is extremly easy fast and straight forward On the other hand I recently watched the new Star Trek in blu ray with the Tru Motion feature on and it looked amazing
The picture quality is better than on other 1080p LCD TV I own I own a 42 inch Toshiba and a 40 inch Bravia the sound quality is comparable but the speaker volume is a bit lower than on the other two LCDs I however found this to be a trivial issue the sound volume is good just not great since I connect the TV to a home theater system
All in all if you want am easy to use LCD 1080p 120Hz TV with superb picture quality for less than other comparable TVs this is a great choice >> A Great Set and a Great Price Just bought the set yesterday set it up and couldn t stop watching it Added the LG Blue Ray DVD Player/Home Theater system with IPod dock/remote NetFlix Ethernet capability etc and I feel like I m in a movie theater The functions and ease of use on both devices are great
The only drawback I ve noticed so far with the TV is with deleting channels from the autoscan selections it takes several screen flips to remove each channel but since I ve only had the set one day maybe I m doing something wrong

Other things noted on the 26 model poor sound quality almost sounded like a blown speaker with lower tones Angle of viewing was also not great you needed to be almost directly in front of the screen for a clear picture
Since they decided replace it with something comparable I opted to go with a 26 Samsung LN26B460 instead of another LG Picture is clear from all angles no issues with sound and overall picture quality blacks colors etc is far superior to the LG >> Great T V This is our second LG t v and just couldn t be any happier Hard to beat LG for the quality and price We used to be big Sony fans but in the future I think LG will be the brand we select

My boss wanted to be budget friendly a little bit so he thought this TV was well bargained for under 600 with a DVD player attached On top of that we play DVDs only for the patients no cable or even satellite antennas Little did he know this DVD player was NOT built for marathon DVD playing AT ALL It is loud just like everyone had suggested here in the review board It takes some time to recognize the DVDs and eject them as well If you play DVDs in our way roughly 5 times a week at least 8 hours of non stop play time you will come to the point where it does not eject the DVD anymore Unable to eject the disc the DVD player will re insert the disc automatically and assume you want to play the disc again A HUGE headache for all the office staffs and few of our long term patients who suffered from over dosage of Planet Earth you can Q A me on ANY FRAME I kid you not within the episodes of From Pole to Pole Mountains and Fresh Water and I can tell you exactly what s going on there matching the music theme on the back and mimicking David Attenborough s narration at the same time
Another negative aspect is the viewing angle range of the screen off angles are pretty dark our patients ended up cluttering in the middle of the room to watch the TV quite amusing but very inconvenient for all of them Perhaps it would be better for a bedroom TV
I have read the entire manual and found NONE of the troubleshoot problems are related to the DVD player which is how they hide their little secrets of this incompetent freebie We are facing a potential charge of more than 200 dollars to fix this little thing It could have been more budget friendly if we purchase these two separately So be aware of these TV w/ DVD players
