LG 42PJ350 42 Inch 720p Plamsa HDTV >> Got a big new TV Just got the LG 42PJ350 plasma so I haven t had it very long this won t be that kind of review This is a great tv It s our first flat screen hdtv The difference between this and my old SONY Trinitron CRT is like night and day The contrast is amazing the colors are vibrant off angle viewing is flawless and there are more than enough adjustments that you can make The sound is good all by itself in a medium sized room And the screen is huge I can t believe how wonderful it is to watch anything on this tv
Some technical junk the digital tuner is excellent it pulls in lots of channels way more than the old converter box the gummint bought us HD channels look fantastic 720p is plenty good I don t think you need 1080p unless you have source material that can take advantage of it and even then you probably won t be able to tell the difference Most of what we watch is broadcast tv and old fashioned dvd s so we don t have much need of more pixels If that sounds like you then get a 720p plasma and save yourself 500 Oh yeah and the remote control is very easy to use big buttons where it matters and very intuitive

Was considering the Sony 46ex500 and was just about to purchase it when I seen this LG on sale for 999 00 and this set had 200 000 1 contrast and 240 hz and the sony had 150000 1 and 120 hz So for the same price and picture looking very sharp no brainer
Picture the HD picture is amazing almost like 3d but in 2d 3d is over rated just good for certain movies no need to pay for that extra affect this set will give u great unbeleiveable picture Digital Picture is good plus LG gives u the ability to expand the picture and still stay clear SD Picture is fair but all the flat panel sets R the same
Sound the sound with clear 2 voice sys is good not great but for tv sound sys pretty good
Do not waste your time on plasma or LED sets which r over price this set is just as good
Would buy again save your moeny and buy this top of the line LG SET

Should have done this a long time ago >> Love the TV Just a few things that get to me I have been holding off on a flat screen for awhile I already had a HD Tv but it was only 30 I wanted a deal and decent specs So I searched and searched and this was it for me I purchased and received this beauty faster then the estimated time I watched Blu ray s on my PS3 with my wife and smiled like a little kid on christmas morning Shortly thereafter I noticed quirks My wife says I m anal but notices these discrepencies as well Just not as much as myself 240 HZ makes a visual effect as if there is no auto balance to a camera man s hold when recording So it feels as if you are recording the movie live and every little bounce and pause is noticed I don t like it and my wife get s a bit queezy so we turn 240 off or low more so then not One more thing again due to me being anal I ve noticed 3 grey lines going horizontally on the screen Only on light panning backgrounds Besides these complaints I d give a 4 5/5 I really do love this TV just could do without the quirks

LG 42LH90 42 Inch 1080p 240Hz LED Backlit LCD HDTV Glossy Black/Infused Blue >> Brief review of LG 42LH90 There are more detailed reviews before this one so I choose not to be redundant Set up is easy and the remote is simple and easy to use This LCD has full array LED backlighting The real thin LED sets are using edge lighting with diffusers They are OK but the light is not always evenly dispersed It appears more mfgs are using edge lighting since it is probably less costly to produce and the sets are much thinner Either way the LCD sets with LED backlighting give you an amazing picture Sound quality is average as most of thr newer sets seem to be designed for use with a separate sound system The frame of the 42LH90 is not as narrow as other sets thus making it look king of bulky for a 42 inch set The pedestal mount that comes with the unit is somewhat wobbly It is a buyers market right now so you should be able to get a local retailer to offer the set for the same price as on line I did Expect to pay 1000 to 1100 right now early May 2010 That s not much money for a 42 inch LED 1080p 120Hz quasi 240Hz HDTV >> very good tv The 42LH90 is a very good TV Very good picture A little blooming I just listened to some advice in other reviews to calibrate the tv myself I used the STANDARD selection as my jumping off point I really didn t realize that some people on TV look so bad The picture quality is really good I have it connected to my own audio system Swivel stand is great I had an LG 42 inch 720p 1100 to 1 resolution from 3 or 4 yrs ago This TV is quite lighter throws off less heat and has a more superior picture I hope the quality and durability is the same So far so good >> Great HD TV for its Price I have been looking around for a 1080p TV for a long time to upgrade my room and I finally came to buy this TV and I would never look back I wanted a TV good for gaming has great picture clarity and of course good HD playback whether it be Blu Ray or HD channels on cable This TV has lived up to all of my expectations that I had for it except for one problem The 240Hz TruMotion even when on low has some distorting effect on moving background images Usually nothing that takes a lot away from the overall picture and nothing that lasts more than a couple seconds but I always seem to find those things I am convinced it is the 240Hz considering I have watched the same movies on 120Hz 1080p LED TV and there was only very slight distortions When playing a Blu Ray on 1080p it is less noticeable than if you where watching HBO HD or some other Cable TV HD channel
Picture clarity and brightness are phenomenal We have the Samsung 55 LED set downstairs and when I compared it almost looked like this LG was brighter and was more clear when playing a Blu Ray disc or playing a PS3 game Sound quality is very good of built in speakers Usually I can t let it go over 40 otherwise it is too loud when comparing it to the Samsung sometimes we need to put the volume all the way up to 85 90
Overall I am very happy with this TV for the price that I paid for it I just bought a new Blu Ray player to replace my Samsung P1500 I will be hooking up a Panasonic DMP DB85K later this week to see if it will make any difference in Blu Ray clarity So far the best movie that I have watched on this TV picture wise is District 9 watched that yesterday and WOW it was an amazingly clear crisp and bright picture
If you are looking for a closer to budget priced 1080p LED TV this would be the TV you should consider

2 days ago I hooked up my Panasonic DMP DB85K Blu Ray player and I will say there is a a slight difference over my older Samsung model I went through the settings on the DVD player and turned on the 24p setting plays the dvd at 24 frames per second which is what movies are recorded in and there was a good difference in playback
I also played around with some settings in the picture menu about the distortion about black edges/images I turned the Black Level setting to High and I keep TruMotion 240hz to Low and I notice that there is less distortion on Blu Ray play back I will continue to play around with some settings and see if there can be any more changes I can make

1 Color Accuracy Color accuracy great without even tweaking any calibration settings I like the THX cinema mode the best
2 Slick The TV has a slim form factor and the uniform glass top Bezel does not pop out of the screen We absolutely love it s looks
3 DLNA This is the first TV I owned with DLNA capability I installed the Nero Home media essentials that came with this TV on my laptop and I was able to watch photos and videos that are on my laptop in no time The video quality also feels upscaled and close to HD
4 Plug and Play USB I connected my USB hard drive and instantly there is a prompt on the TV to play videos music and photos
5 Netcast and Widgets The TV comes with Netflix Youtube Vudu Picasa widgets and it also supports the Yahoo widget gallery I haven t yet tried Netflix or Vudu But Youtube and Picasa were really good The picture quality of the youtube videos was not great but it really is a matter of the video itself but not the TV Yahoo widgets were good too I especially use the Twitter widget a lot
6 Games The TV came with some games pre installed I haven t explored this feature much But I tried Sudoku and it was simple to use
7 No Buzz Since I read in one of the earlier reviews about the buzz sound I tried hard to hear it from my typical viewing distance about 10ft and I heard nothing
8 Ease of use The menus and features are very easy to navigate and operate
9 Remote The remote is really slick and with big keys and very easy to operate Also has decent short cuts to most of the frequently used features
Cons
1 Black Levels Black levels are not as dark as I d hoped for in a Plasma In fact in some cases I tend to think they are not even on par with some of the latest better performing Sony and Samsung LCDs I was a little disappointed with this But hey you get what you pay for
2 Glare Like any other plasma TV this TV produces a bit of glare But this is much better compared to a lot of other plasmas I ve seen and in most cases you wouldn t really notice it unless you are looking for it
3 PIP/POP I d hoped that a 2010 TV comes with the basic PIP/POP features But seems like this TV does not have it It s not a deal breaker for me though
4 Zoom The picture zoom feature is a little cumbersome
5 Typing Netcast widgets use the number pad for typing But Yahoo widgets twitter rely on the visual keyboard and entering each alphabet takes a lot of strokes I wish LG offered a remote with QWERTY keyboard something similar to the one that comes with Vizio VF552XVT
6 Video format compatibility I tried playing several videos of different formats divx divx HD mpeg mp4 wmv avi etc It was able to handle all formats But within a given format some videos were not recognized videos that I have are even though of the same format are different in bit rate compression resolution etc Sometimes it does not recognize the audio I wish LG comes up with a firmware update to expand it s support
One feature I haven t tried is the wireless connectivity This TV is both WiFi ready and Wireless 1080p ready But both of these optional accessories which I do not currently have
I haven t played around with a lot of picture settings yet Mostly because I didn t need to But as I explore more I shall come back to update this post
This may not be the best TV on market But for a little over 1000 bucks you can not go wrong with this TV especially if you are not a videophile and picky about deep black levels

LG 50PS80 50 Inch 1080p Plasma Broadband HDTV >> Wonderful TV This TV is everything it says it is It s a perfect television for the tech guys like me who want to share their PC media on their home entertainment system Great buy >> Great Plasma buy I was looking for a top of the line plasma tv formay leaving roomand after looking for more that 3 monthsI had two finalists the panasonic Viera p15 and this LG Althought they were virtualy the same in everything But there was one final deal breaker the design This one flat front glass screen did it for me It makes this TV look sleek and sophisticate I am very please the way it looks mounted over my fire place A great buy >> Great TV for the Price I purchased this TV during the pre christmas sales in early November 2009 for a great price 899 I was originally going to the store to purchase the Panasonic P50G15 However the Sales Associate convinced me to buy the LG it was the best TV for the price the P50G15 was 1199 which included a blu ray player vs 899 for the 50PS80 With Pioneer out of the market the Panasonic Plasma s are considered the best picture quality available However comparing the LG P580 vs the Panasonic G15 is comparing LG s top of the line model against a high end Panny but not their best V10 series The following features gave the LG a slight edge for the price
1 The LG PS80 utilizes a single pane of glass The Panasonic G15 is two panes the Panasonic V10 is also one pane This reduces the glare in a bright room My set is in a room with a huge Bay window The glare is not that noticible On particulary bright days I close the blinds I also have a big ceiling light that hangs down directly behind the viewer If the light is on the fullest setting you know its there but if you dim the light you don t notice it Another trick I learned is to swivel the tv so you aren t perpindicular to the screen THe light behind the screen no longer is reflected back at the viewer With the plasma the viewing angle is superb so with a slight viewing angle the picture is perfect and there is no glare
2 The tv stand swivels If you are buying a wall mount or a entertainment center that has a mount that swivels this doesn t matter However if you are just putting the tv with its default stand on an entertainment center the swivels is very useful Especially for when I use a nintendo wii I can turn the screen so its facing away from my coffee table and I can play active games on the wii As mentioned above sometimes I swivel the set slightly to eliminate any glare from behind the viewer
3 The LG PS80 supports 24P Cinematic Playback I m not 100 educated in this feature theoretically this means that vidoes filmed at 24 frames per second will play smoother on the LG PS80 than sets that don t have 24P capable I don t believe the P50G15 does though the V10 definitely does The CNET reviews say that the LG software isn t as consistent as the top of the line competitors like the Panasonic V10 but thusfar every movie i have watched looks amazing and is smooth without any noticible artifacts / ghosting / etc
4 The I/O ports are slightly different there is 1 more HDMI on the LG There is not an S Video on the LG Though with all of the HDMI and Component Video options I have no need to ever use S Video I would rather have the 4 HDMI s The I/0 on the side of the set is also very useful
The reviews from sites like CNET knock the picture quality of the PS80 because of the black levels My father owns the last generation of the Pioneer Elite Kuro s which are known to have some of the best black levels ever and I can honestly say that once you calibrate the picture settings on the LG the Picture Quality PQ is stunning and comparible to the older Pioneer The black levels of the LG are significantly better than most if not all of the LCD s on the market my friend brought one of the top of the line Samsung LCD s during Christmas 2008 2000 vs 899 and this LG blows the picture quality away
The bells and whistles that the NetCast provides are pretty cool though not necessary The NetFlix feature is great and very convenient G15 has ethernet but not Netflix One push of the button on the remote brings you to the NetFlix menu you scroll through your movies and make a selection Works great with pretty good picture quality supposedly its 720P If you have an XBOX 360 like I do or other NetFlix enabled devices this isn t necessary in the TV however it is convenient to have it in one push of the button saves time The Yahoo widgets I find fairly useless I do use the Weather one frequently which is pretty cool Its useful to know the temperature forcast and whether or not you will have a storm though its frustrating that you can t tell how much snow you will get i e 4 to 6 of snow The sports scores are pretty useful as well but easier to do on a laptop and I notice that some of them don t update too often
One knock on the LG PS80 is that I have notice some level of temporary image retention i e burn in especially during the first few weeks of using it break in period Menu systems especially ones like selecting a movie with the VUDU widget would leave a light images on the screen of the menu when the screen displays something dark or goes black However with a little bit of time they always go away The tv also has ISM methods that you can use to wash the screen completely removing the retention in a few seconds Now that my tv is broken in it rarely happens anymore I have used my XBOX 360 and Nintendo Wii a lot and have had no issues
If you have a 50 tv you most likely have a receiver with surround sound so speaker quality probably won t matter too much to most people However it should be pointed out that the sound quality of the LG 50PS80 speakers is suprisingly good Great depth of sound good amplification and the sound is sharp and clear It also has an optional ClearVoice mode which amplifies the sound of human voices so you can pick them out better from the sound effects / background noise I played with this setting thought it was neat but leave it turned off If you are hard of hearing it may be beneficial
This review is getting long winded so I won t write much more The big thing I would recommend is calibrating the picture settings this is true of any TV you buy The default settings Vivid Mode look like crap at home The tv has a simple calibration mode built into the menu system this will get you started Take time to learn how to set the ISF Expert modes I bought a calibration disk which worked pretty well Another option is to try the settings recommended by CNET I started with those and the difference in picture quality is night day Every tv will vary slightly so their recommended settings won t give you a perfect calibration but its a great starting point I ve provided the CNET recommendations below

i recieved this tv in prompt time ordered march 19th standard shipping recieved march 25th via ups setup was a breeze i programmed this tv with a universal remote that i already had for use with my old tv the picture comes in great volume is awesome there is a slight delay when changing channels but i got used to that fairly quickly also i ve been so used to turning on my tv and immediately it comes on the lg takes a few seconds but i expected that with any new tv i would purchase i love the fact that there is a sleep setting on this set i also love the fact that there are different picture settings i can choose from i can set my own or use the preset natural cinema sport or vivid settings there may be a few more i forgot to mention the same with the sound i can set my own or use the preset options instead
the sound and picture quality are good with the set but they are not the best that there is out there if you re looking for a less pricey set to meet your basic needs this is the tv for you
i love the fact that this tv is fairly mobile i ve moved a lot in the past and i can t stress enough how much of a pain it is to have to unhook every cord and cable from a big bulky set to move this set is light and sleek looking the stand does not swivel which is kind of a downer but the pros definitely outweigh this one con also i love the fact that there is cord management in the back a cheap little plastic clip can hold all of my cords together to help hide them a bit and make this lg tv look a little more impressive the plastic clip is a little cheap yes but it s in the back of the tv so who cares

just to let you know before I review I bought this tv from Amazon paid extra for it to arrive in 2 days via express mail it took 7 or so but I was fine with that Out of the box this TV was impressive in both size and picture quality I remained pleased and impressed for 3 weeks then out of the blue it stopped working LG provided me with the phone number to a certified repair center I called and they informed me that they don t perform in house repairs This TV is 75 lbs and is difficult to move They sent out 1 man to pick it up in a ran down van On the pickup ticket he wrote SCRATCHED I know for a fact that this TV was flawless when it left It s been over a week and they still have my TV I don t know what condition it will be returned in and I m highly concerned I feel that the TV should I ve been replaced with a brand new one being that I paid 2000 for it and it malfunctioned after only 3 weeks >> LG 55LH85 LCD HDTV During the advent of big screen TVs I said I would replace my 27 Zenith color TV purchased when I got married in 1969 when it quit on me Well it didn t and I couldn t wait so I bought a Sony KP5020 coffee table type front projection TV in 1984 For the past few years I have watched TV technology change to plasma and LCD s Like the Zenith I gave up waiting for the Sony to quit also and after months of research deciding between plasma and LCD I chose LCD and further upon further elimination of brands a LG I am into gadgets and that s my motorcycle group riding name I wanted a bigger screen than 50 so after deciding on the brand there were 3 LG s I looked at the LG 55LH40 LG 55LHX and LG 55LH85 The so called LED TV s like the LHX are only backlit LEDs not true LED like OLED and even though not true LED they are expensive Sony sells a true OLED TV for 2500 for an 11 screen and they are sold out but out of my range 120 Hz vs 240 Hz The eye can t tell that much difference for the price and LG 120 Hz has True Motion to compensate for judder The same goes for 720p vs 1080p The eye can t tell much and I understand that HDTV transmissions are in 720p anyway Blueray is in 1080p What finally attracted me was the LG 85 s separate wireless media box with almost an infinite array of inputs and outputs all transmitted wireless If you have your sound system in one area and TV in another area but in the same room you ve got it made with this system I found out that Black Friday weekend prices on the TVs were a little lower than Cyber Monday I waited until Cyber Monday and lost out on good prices What a hype The TVs went up 100 for the 85 to 300 for the 40 Even Newegg went up As I am typing this Newegg went back down to Black Friday week prices after 2 weeks of being 100 higher It helps to have Price Protection service like I have for 60 days after purchase but it s not through Newegg The prices on the net have been ranging from 1699 to 2699 What a difference in prices I think my TV was shipped from Ca since it took 8 days to get here by AIT There was a storm front in the area and I called their local contractor J P trucking and asked them to postpone delivery a day later They said they would deliver whenever I wanted and arrived 12/10/09 It arrived strapped to a wooden pallet I cut the straps and lifted the box over the TV that was encased in styrofoam The only damage I found was 2 symmetrical hairline cracks on the back of the base that cannot be seen from the front They are so equal it almost looks like it was made that way It was probably from the TV shifting on the foam It is a handsome unit with transparent frame The TV measures 54 wide 10 wider than the Sony so I had to improvise my space I wheeled it in carefully with a dolly and lifted it up onto my surround sound bass box that is 13 H X 13 W X 15 Deep With stand it weighs 86 lbs Having the media box separate saves weight Inside the packing box is the TV media box 2 power cords owners manual extensive manual on a CD remote with batteries microfiber cloth and protection cover to cover the hole used by the TV stand if you want to hang it up on the wall You have to purchase a separate HDMI cables and VGA cable if you want to hook it up to your computer I had my previous TV hooked up with cable converter box Go Video DVD VCR recorder Go Video VHS to VHS recorder Sony DVD player changer and Sylvania DVD recorder that runs through a multiple switching box master control center so I am probably getting some signal loss I hooked up the TV cable into the LG media box My cable company also supplies not only TV but broadband and telephone another possible signal loss It takes a few seconds for the media box s transmitter located in the front of the box to search for the receiver located under the LG logo on the TV Reception is similar to the bars on your cell phone and I am receiving 5 bars By the time I finished hooking it up the Jay Leno show was on and I thought either my vision was impaired or something s wrong with the TV because Jay s head/face was out of focus Was I upset and almost blamed it on the TV until I switched to a pre recorded DVR program and then played a DVD and also switched to HD programming I had no focus problems Then I remembered the bad hype that the Sony projection TVs got many years ago The increased size accented the poor transmissions put out by the TV stations not the fault of the TV I have not used the HDMI hookup yet or surround sound option I have a separate surround sound running out of my DVD VCR recorder The LG media box has 3 HDMI connections in the back 1 in the front and there is 1 on the TV also comes with automatic or manual time clock and sleep timer Through the remote you can access a simple manual and quick menu to make picture adjustments Pressing the info on the remote will give you program info if broadcast by your cable/satellite company It also has key lock parental controls and channel locks You can view JPG files play MP3 and movie files as well as Simplink equipped There is a Picture Wizard where you can tune your TV to examples as you desire and adjusts black level white color tint horizontal and vertical sharpness and backlight You also have manual advanced and 2 expert settings that you can set according to what you are watching The expert settings also go farther than my technical ability at this time and I haven t messed with all the color adjustment in the expert setting There are directions for optimal placement of the media box and I have mine just in front and under the right side of the TV I found out after moving the box around that the front controls are touch sensitive for all the ports on the box I have not used the HDMI or blue ray but according to the other reviews the picture is outstanding That is probably the best way to appreciate the money you spent on this TV since TV broadcasting is still not the best of worlds I have been getting tileing all year and have had the cable co out numerous times and they are coming again Sunday to try to fix the tileing I m ready to go back to Dish or Direct TV The only Cons I can find is that when you use the Intelligent Sensor with one light on in the room the screen is too dim for my liking but it saves 75 energy by dropping the brightness and backlight When I turn the overhead light on it adjusts accordingly and gets brighter The other con is the email for registration is not what is printed on the card It is Secure was left off the card or had been changed to a new email Contacting LG customer service by phone was answered quickly I inquired why I am not receiving picture info It seems it is the cable s problem not the TV I hooked another TV with picture info features up to cable and didn t get any info either At least I received immediate info from LG customer service who also confirmed that my email registration had been confirmed I saw a 55 in Vizio at Walmart this week for 1350 They are reputed to give you a lot of bang for the buck but the old saying still is You get what you pay for and I am happy with what I got Anyone interested in LG should go to >> Pretty good Pros Well price for one I grabbed it for 1 699 shipped I m going to compare this to I ll start out saying that the black levels are not nearly as close to as the Samsung Although it does have potential i have yet to really dig into the settings seeing as I ve only had it for about a week
Sound quality is much better than the Samsung But I didn t expect a bang form a 1 3 TV The LG is obviously a thicker beast at around 4 3
Ahh the WIRELESSSSS ohhhh Well its pretty cool actually Thus far i haven t had any issues with the signal The TV is about 13 feet away from the transmitter at this point One note though it does take a wee bit longer to boot about 13 seconds form the time you press power to seeing a picture Switching between inputs is no issue I hope my Harmony can handle that delay

I moved the wireless box under the TV and i sometimes now get voice sync issues It s a matter of placement issue i know it
The TV it s self was how do I put this eh at first I ve had time to play with the settings and get a chance to use the built it picture optimization wizard It makes the TV shine I watched District 9 today again and it was amazing I was in the theater without a doubt Now for some 5 1 sound

LG 42LH30 42 Inch 1080p LCD HDTV Gloss Black >> John M The TV is fine my issue is with the manual it does not even mention the remote control the DVD that comes with the TV is just like the written manual nothing special in it I am not sure why they even provide a DVD The remote has features that are just not understandable and the on screen set ups does not address the remote Another thing that I don t understand is in the set up it goes thru a clock set up even to include day light saving time but a clock/time never appears on the screen It does have a feature to automatically turn on and off so I guess that is what the clock is all about but auto on and off is not important to me I bought the LG because of the name I previously had a 42 Philips and had no problems but in looking at reviews many people did have problems with the new 42 Philips so I decided to pay more money for the LG At this point I am not sure if it is better or not than a Philips >> Great TV Great Value This television is awesome It was incredibly easy to set up right out of the box I do not know a lot about electroncs and i was able to set it up and connect DVD and video games with ease The picture is fantastic clear and crisp and great color I am very happy with my purchase and am estatic about the great price >> A Cloud in Mid Screen I m here waiting for UPS to pick up my LG 42 300 which I took out of the box just three days ago As soon as I turn it on I noticed a cloudy area in the screen about 3/4 length and 1/4 area of the screen This was easiest to see just as the Tv was turned on for that second or two before it finds the channel When I had something on with bright colors I really didn t notice any difference but when the colors were dark or when I turned on a black and white movie the cloud was quite visible I called LG directly who informed me that their were no LG technicians available and worse didn t know when one would be avaiable The advice was just to return the set to the store I suppose this is the best advice because I had just gotten it and there were problems already but I was surprised that LG wouldn t want to keep a TV that was already in my home from being returned to the store and ultimately I suppose to them I was willing for a techinician to take a look at it because I liked the picture quality at those times when the cloud was not noticeable I don t think I want to take the chance of getting another LG and will order another brand instead

Good Budget priced 2010 model with BANG FOR BUCK for 60Hz shoppers very accurate colors out of the box AND a deep color tweaking menu and surprisingly rich/dark blacks as far as LCDs go
Bad 60Hz means no 3D boo but this has equal PQ in every other way as the 47LD550 42LD550 yay the desktop stand assembly is far from the most secure stand only 2 HDMI and 1 Component input but RGB/VGA input is able to receive video color levels as well as PC color levels
Bottom Line I m not a T V nerd audio/videophile forum junkie but I am fairly knowlegable regarding A/V and tech stuff I ve had several HDTVs since 2006 and closely compared LCD sets by Samsung LG and Sony with Panasonic Viera plasmas for the 2008/2009 model years The 42LD450 has BETTER PQ to my eyes than the LG model 42LG40 the 120Hz 2009 model 2010 > 2009 with 120Hz series offering little more than the refresh rate and the gimmicky motion smoothing feature TruMotion In comparing the 42LD550 and the 42LD450 they both calibrated almost identically the only difference between the sets being that the 42LD550 has a 120Hz refresh rate
Sony s KDL 40EX600 and KDL 40EX400 also fell short to this BARGAIN BIN LG SET Don t take my word for it actually DO TAKE MY WORD FOR IT Need a 42 1080p Get the 120/240/480/600Hz model in 2 3 years when 3D technology is CHEAP AND VASTLY IMPROVED 60Hz is all you need and this TV will give you picture that would have carried a 1800 price tag in 2008
If the 1 factor to you is having the best picture quality possible simply don t go LCD picture quality is the 1 most important factor to you then let me advise you that NO LCD set will offer you superior PQ than other technologies

The picture was sharp and clear Multiple preset modes cinema game normal make setup easy but there are also custom fine tuning adjustments available It does not appear to have network/internet capability but I will purchase a Blue ray DVD player with that feature separately The unit has an optical audio out so I can use my older receiver for 5 1 sound
The remote feels cheap but gets the job done I imagine one rarely uses the manufacturer s TV remote so LG and other makers probably do not spend much on them I did not notice any backlight seeping out of case which I understand is a problem on some TVs
For an entry level buyer this was a solid purchase I paid 658 I thought that was reasonable for a 1080p set in 42 I rated it 4 stars on because I do not have much product knowledge yet

One of the features that attracted me to the TV was the availability of the internet most especialy Netflix on the TV I am not quite so tech savy so I wasn t sure how to do this The owners manual showed running a ethernet cable from your modem or wireless router to the LAN port on the TV The problem for me was that both were across the house and I really didn t want to run a cable across the house to the TV I tried to do some research on the internet to find out how to do this and most sites were showing connecting a computer or laptop via HDMI or other cable system however the great thing about this TV is that you shouldn t require a computer Finaly I called my sister who always knows a lot more about anything technical and she told me there is a product called Cisco Linksys PLTK300 Powerline Adapter 124 on Amazon you will also need 2 ethernet cables I just ordered it today so I can update how it works when I get the product Apparently it comes with two devices and one you connect to your wireless router and then plug into the wall and the second one you plug into your TV and then plug into the wall and it sends the internet signal through your electrical outlet I m not sure if it is common knowledge that such a product exists but maybe there is somebody out there who knows as little as myself about this and hopefully this helps >> Let Me Join the Crowd I have to parrot the previous reviews I ordered this tv on April 10 and have it up and running today Great service and very fast delivery On to the tv The picture on the LG is fantastic I replaced a dlp and even when that tv was brand new it came nowhere close to the bright rich colors of the LG No glare very good blacks and an ease to hookup
I have already tried the netcast feature and I have to say that it is great I didn t want to run a cable to the back of my house to the router so I purchased a VuDu wireless kit There is absolutely nothing to do but plug it in Works like a charm

ADDED May 8 2010 Had a bump in the road While watching the tv it suddenly turned off When trying to turn back on it would immediately turn itself back off In short it turned out that the main board went out LG responded right away and sent a serviceman out He replaced the new board in a matter of minutes He told me that this is the first time he has seen that in this model and that he has only had to service 3 other models like this one That made me feel better

LG 37LH40 37 Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV Gloss Black >> Fantastic Television I could not be happier with this LG 37 inch 1080p 120Hz television I did my research for a long while before making this purchase and the price was unbeatable for all of the features that this model offers The 1080p was a priority for me as well as the 120Hz I watch a great deal of sports so this feature was a must have The picture quality is terrific and the overall appearance of the television is sleek and stylish The set up was very easy as well The 37 inch is hard to find elsewhere and it is perfect for the size of my living room I would recommend this television without hesitation >> Picture ratio never right I bought this over the Samsung I wanted because it was a 37 which is closer to what I wanted instead of a 40 When I got it home it set up quick and easy However the picture has yet to be the correct ratio Whether it is 4 3 or 16 9 the picture is either a little stretched or cut off I ve tried both the auto settings and the manual and neither appear to make any difference The beauty of my Samsung is that it automatically adjusts to the program for the proper picture ratio the LG does not As for picture quality it is terrible The 20 year old RCA CRT TV that I just ditched for this had a better quality picture All in all I am very disappointed and will soon be returning this the store where I purchased it >> Fantastic TV that won t break the bank This TV is incredible Sure you can buy a Vizio or Hitachi or something for much less but come on if you re spending 700 get something great The options on this TV are fantastic so you can adjust the picture until it is absolutely perfect for you The 120Hz TruMotion works quite well but if you don t like it you can easily turn it off same with the 24P Real Cinema Intelligent Sensor Energy Saver and every other feature
The only thing more incredible than the TV was the service I received from Video Audio Center I purchased the TV on Amazon but from V AC There was an issue with my original purchase and I have never dealt with a more gracious quick to help seller than Video Audio Center Just fantastic
Note my DirecTV looks awesome via HDMI my PC looks awesome via the SVGA HD15 input be aware there is no DVI input so you may need a DVI/SVGA or DVI/HDMI adapter which can be purchased at monoprice for 5 and my old DVD player looks fine via component cables
Also note I have occasionally noticed some video/audio sync issues but it has nothing to do with the TV or type of cable used to connect to the DirecTV What I have found is that on some of the older programming things not filmed in HD but now being broadcast in HD you see the sync issue which is not corrected by switching to component cables as some people have suggested but when you watch new programming there is no issue at all And even if there is an actual sync issue which is doubtful your 37 tv qualifies for free in house servicing which would probably take care of any issue in 10 minutes

LG 42LD520 42 Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV >> I would not buy an LG TV I would not buy an LG LCD TV I have own 3 of them two 42 and one 32 and all of them went on the blink within 2 years or less The first 42 would not power on at all and needed a new main board at a cost of 600 The second 42 would produce sound but no picture screen black and the third the 32 would power on and off by itself when changing channels The last two are now at the recycler as the cost to repair was over half of a new one I replaced them with Sony s and the picture quality is far better so far with no issues >> Excellent Picture Quality Buy I spent close to an hour in the store comparing LCD TVs This LG stood out with its sharp and bright colors I used the store s Internet connection to check out the reviews but since it is a new model there wasn t many The older model however was popular among gamers
The speakers on this TV are hidden on the back and this gives it a neat look The speakers also sound great There are different sound options in the menu plus advanced picture controls In Intelligent Sensor mode the TV adjust the brightness and color contrast according to the room lighting conditions The picture quality is easy to setup using the picture wizard option
This TV has three HDMI connections in the back to use with your laptop or desktop plus an RGB VGA Cable There is also a USB 2 0 port in the back I connected a USB thumb drive and was able to listen to music and display my digital pictures on the screen
Over all I am very pleased with quality of this LG model and recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a LCD TV for under 1k and I mean not for picture quality but the size of the screen since this had as good if not better picture quality as other more expensive models in the store

The only real competition to my LG was a Samsung that I was watching It s price went through the roof and it was smaller than the LG The LG s technical specs are impressive If you believe in looking that what the numbers say this is the TV for you although this model is no longer available
Unpacking the TV was nearly painless Mounting the swivel stand was easy but if you re a small person you ll want help getting the TV from the floor to wherever you re going to put it I was just able to wrestle it up to my 4 ft high location I m a average sized guy so judge for yourself Just don t drop it

LG 37LH55 37 Inch 1080p 240Hz LCD HDTV Gloss Black >> Excellent This TV is a great choice I play video games and watch a lot of Blu Ray movies This TV has crisp color and the backlight function is very nice Almost everything on this TV is custom the picture quality sound inputs channel options This TV was created for every user due to its ease of use When I bought this TV I got it for 650 and even after Black Friday I still can t find another TV as good as this and for the price The 240hz option is ok but isn t need 120hz however is needed for fluid motion Overall I am very pleased with this television it feels as if this TV is a smart TV because it is customizable >> TruMotion 240hz is not worth the money I purchased this television for a low price during a deal The Pilot shipping was bad late didn t call when I called them I had to give them directions When the television arrived there was a scratch on the plastic frame around the screen That s not a big deal to me Setting up the television was easy However the 240hz TruMotion is a flawed feature It does make motion smoother and may be useful when there is small fast motion but it causes great disruption on the screen when there is a lot of motion For example in the show The Office whenever the camera pans from one character to another large pixels appear on the screen This happens to both cable and Blu Ray Turning off TruMotion is the only way to stop this from happening Therefore I would recommend saving your money and getting a LG 120hz set Besides the TruMotion the picture is good but there are problems with black levels I think the sound is good and the remote is easy to use Overall if I had paid full price I d return the unit since it is basically a 120hz television advertised as 240hz there are several articles online about how LG s TruMotion 240hz is not really 240hz it just creates a 240hz effect A Sony on the other hand that is advertised as 240hz is truly 240hz But since I got it for a low price I ll keep it >> This is one beautiful S IPS panel I bought this on black friday for an amazing price I was in the market for an HDTV for a few months and was looking for something below 700 at least 120hz 1080p and had a good panel When I saw this beauty up I nabbed it as soon as I could pull out my credit card This set packs one nice S IPS panel It has a huge color range and can get extremely bright to the point of looking almost real in outdoor scenes On to the review As much as I can say that I love this TV mostly due to the price it s not quite perfect For one thing the black levels aren t exactly the best I ve seen on an LCD It s most apparent when watching a movie with black bars added to keep aspect ratio and in dark movie/video game scenes
I use this as a PC monitor so I can t say anything about how this does on broadcast television I figure with all the bells whistles features this thing has it could make a standard def signal look pretty damn decent over 37
I don t use the speakers as I have a system so I can t comment on the audio I m sure its on par with however HDTV speakers sound
I have this hooked up via HDMI to my PC When first turning it on out of box the picture quality was very poor as were all the presets for this I couldn t get it to look good until I turned all the advanced features down to low/off this includes gamma black level dynamic contrast and edge enhancer although it does look better to me with color gamut on wide I then turned contrast brightness sharpness backlight and all that down to 50 When I did this it looked AWESOME I turn the backlight up and down depending on ambient light and if I want it to look brighter for something videogames/movies I haven t seen any ghosting as far as I can tell and I got pretty good eyes
Now about the big one the 240hz TruMotion feature It looks great for video games and sports It s far from perfect though and especially so with this HDTV LG really messed up on this one in my opinion My main complaint with this TV is with the feature I wanted it for most and why I m only giving it four stars its hard for me to not give it 5 just for the panel alone When engaging the 240hz feature they DO NOT give you the option to turn off the dejudder effect This would be the perfect TV if you were just able to have the panel running at 240hz without having de judder on Dejudder technology interpolates extra frames in between the real frames to make the image more smooth Now this is great that they re trying something like this but it isn t perfect yet so it degrades the image source When on high it produces a lot of frequent visual artifacts on moving and not moving objects ranging from black pixels on objects to two objects on the screen that aren t there I like to play FPS games and anyone who does reading this knows that it s really bad to see something that s not there When on low it happens less frequently but I can still see frequent artifacts even on the text as I m typing right now When off it never happens Unfortunately when turning the 240hz TruMotion feature off it doesn t utilize the 240hz processing at all and runs like a 60hz panel The reason this happens is that there is NO DEJUDDER OFF FEATURE WITHOUT TURNING OFF THE 240HZ FEATURE Needless to say this made me pissed So now I have to live with artifacts every now and then until I get a new panel which will be a while hopefully I thought I got the perfect deal instead I have something that does almost everything I wanted I can t complain too much though I got a huge 240hz S IPS panel and 4 year warranty for 700 total Thanks Amazon Squaretrade

I am a Netflix subscriber and I have been using PLEX to stream Netflix content onto my TV as well as to stream other video content stored on my Mac to my TV It works very well but it is a little kludgey since I still want to be able to use the Mac wile using it to serve Video content to Plex The TV acts as a second monitor
I was VERY concerned that I could find no reviews about this unit anywhere It s just that new I was especially concerned about how well the net connectivity worked So now that I have one I thought I would write a review
It s an LCD HD TV Picture quality looks fine to me but standing in the store they all kind of start to look alike I m not a video quality expert I would say that I could see a slight improvement on the LED TV s over LCD but I don t think it s drastic enough to warrant 500 1000 premium I was more interested in spending extra to get that Ethernet port on the back
So how does it work In a word Amazing
I hooked my HD cable box up and got that working then I plugged it into my home network It recognized that I had plugged it in and it DHCP ed an address off and connected without any problems I hit the Netcast button and got my choice of Yahoo Widgets There is also a Widgets button on the remote Netflix VuDu YouTube and Picasa I clicked Netflix prepared to have to painstakingly enter my Netflix login and password using the arrow keys on the remote and a virtual keyboard I was pleasantly surprised when it presented a URL for me to go to on my computer along with a code to enter I went there it was a Netflix URL on a computer that was already logged into Netflix I entered the code and BAM my instant watch queue showed up You can t browse movies here just your instant watch queue Put movies in the queue on your computer and they show up here Select a movie and after a few seconds it just starts playing You can skip forward and back and it shows the thumbnails very much like it does on the computer It works great
The Netflix video quality was good but VuDu was Spectacular They call it near BluRay and considering it is streaming real time over the Internet it looks really nice I have only watched a few short sample clips from New Moon but it was impressive You get a free rental to sign up and I m looking forward to trying it out
I haven t done Picasa or YouTube yet but I m guessing those are just as easy The TV came with a Windows only Nero MediaHome Essentials 4 Since I don t have a Windows box I can t load this I m assuming this is what LG expects you to use to access content directly from your PC I did a little Googling and downloaded a trial of Twonky Media A cross platform DLNA server Loaded it up set up my directories for my content hit menu on the remote and chose My Media and BAM again There were the files on my Mac I streamed a couple of shows for a few seconds Fast forward rewind it just works It s amazing I m not sure I m even going to bother hooking my Mac directly to my TV who am I kidding of course I will because I can but I doubt I ll actually use it much
Yahoo Widgets work as you would expect They pop up on the bottom of the screen kind of like the Dock in OS X or Windows 7 and you can scroll through them and select them to have them pop up a window You can have the window pop up over the picture or you can have the picture shrink down so you can still see it all I haven t really played with them that much There are several widgets to choose from but my computer is very close to my TV so I m not sure how much I will use them on the TV
Late last year I got a Droid wireless phone with Internet now I have a TV that while it doesn t have a Web Browser who wants to do that anyway it DOES have Internet connectivity I m pretty sure I want ALL of my future purchases to have Internet Connectivity Buying my new Dishwasher may be problematic
